People Operations Manager
About this role
Lafiya Nigeria, a fast-growing non-profit dedicated to expanding contraceptive access to hard-to-reach communities via its "Lafiya Sisters" network, is recruiting for a full-time, permanent People Operations Manager. This fully remote role is open to candidates based anywhere in Sub-Saharan Africa.
As Lafiya transitions from a start-up to a scale-up and prepares to expand to another country, the selected candidate will act as the first dedicated HR resource within the Operations team. This person will be responsible for simultaneously building and running personnel frameworks under the direct supervision of the COO.
Key Responsibilities

Recruitment Execution (70%): Execute evidence-based recruitment and selection processes for international and Nigeria-based staff, maintain candidate pipelines, and optimize hiring SOPs (sourcing, active outreach, and test task design).

Headcount Planning: Build forward-looking hiring plans that anticipate headcount needs and integrate operational overlap to mitigate understaffing risks.

HR Foundations (30%): Own the end-to-end onboarding and offboarding experiences, manage the configuration and utility of the HRIS, and administer leave, absence, and benefit policies.

Performance & Compensation: Coordinate consistent performance review timelines and research peer organizations to propose structured, cross-border compensation philosophies.
Requirements Primary Experience & Sector Background

Tenure: 5 to 9 years of professional experience across people operations, human resources, or recruitment.

Core Capabilities: Proven track record managing full-cycle recruitment across multiple simultaneous vacancies alongside solid foundational HR exposure (e.g., performance cycles, policies, or onboarding).

Sector Background: Prior experience working inside an NGO, INGO, international development organization, or a mission-driven startup environment.

Preferred Assets: Prior experience managing international recruitment portfolios or hiring explicitly within Sub-Saharan Africa.
Education & Skills

Degree: Bachelor's Degree is required.

Languages: Professional fluency in written and spoken English.

Technical & Working Style: Tech-savvy with an aptitude for digital work tools (Google Workspace, Slack, Airtable, LLMs) and comfortable operating asynchronously across time zones in a fast-paced start-up setting.
Remuneration & Benefits

Salary: ₦24,000,000 gross per annum for Nigeria-based candidates (adjusted based on cost of living for international candidates located outside Nigeria).

Time Off: 30 days of paid annual leave plus 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave.
