About this role
Escrow-Tech is hiring a Senior Firmware & BMC Engineer to help build and own the firmware and BMC foundation that powers its hardware platform and SteadGrid. You will work on OpenBMC, embedded Linux and node-level power control, not generic microcontroller development
Job Details
- Location: Overseas / Remote, with willingness for short Lagos or China travel only if essential
- Engagement: Fixed-term contractor, 15 October - 14 December 2026 (optional extension)
- Reporting: Reports technically to the Hardware Platform Architect, who retains architecture and acceptance authority
- International talent welcome: expats and professionals based outside Nigeria, including Nigerians abroad, can apply
Mission
Convert the platform architecture into a controlled production firmware/BMC implementation, including the node-level power-control and telemetry path consumed by SteadGrid
Key Responsibilities
- Reproduce and maintain OpenSBI/U-Boot/OpenBMC/RK3588 builds supplied by Firefly/SpacemiT
- Implement and integrate approved boot-chain customisation, secure-boot hooks, update/signing/rollback and recovery mechanisms
- Map and implement BMC-to-K3 node lifecycle and per-node power-control interfaces
- Support approved 0/25/50/75/100 operating-state semantics, telemetry confirmation, idempotency and safe fallback
- Integrate Redfish/bmcweb/entity-manager/sdbusplus interfaces where appropriate to approved architecture
- Implement logging, health/telemetry and firmware update mechanisms
- Support factory flashing/eFuse tooling integration once vendor procedure is qualified; do not invent undocumented OTP operations
- Write automated tests where possible and HIL tests where hardware is required
- Produce release notes, firmware manual sections and KT sufficient for internal maintenance
Requirements
- 7+ years embedded firmware / embedded Linux experience
- OpenBMC strongly preferred; otherwise deep Linux BMC/IPMI/Redfish plus Yocto and C/C++
- OpenSBI/U-Boot/secure boot/firmware update and recovery experience
- Hardware debugging and production flashing/provisioning experience
- Experience with BMC-to-host power/telemetry control and test automation
Milestones
- M1: Reproducible Firmware/BMC
- M2: First Per-Node Control
- M3: Full State/Telemetry Path
- M4: Hardened SteadGrid Integration
- M5: Production Release/KT
Core Skills
OpenBMC, Embedded Linux, Firmware, BMC, Power Control, Telemetry
