About this role
Pan-Afrique Maritime Limited—a indigenous maritime operations and vessel management company headquartered in Port Harcourt—is recruiting a Chief Engineer for its fleet of conventional tugboats operating in Rivers State and offshore coastal waters. Reporting to the Marine Superintendent / Technical Director, this technical marine leadership role manages main engine operation, auxiliary machinery maintenance, vessel propulsion, fuel efficiency, and emergency engine repairs across company vessels.
Key Responsibilities

Main Propulsion & Auxiliary Operations: Maintain and troubleshoot heavy marine propulsion engines (Wärtsilä, Niigata, Caterpillar, Bergen) and onboard power generator plants.

Vessel Machinery Maintenance: Manage preventive maintenance schedules for hydraulic winches, steering gear, air compressors, pumps, and fuel separation systems.

Fuel & Inventory Management: Oversee bunkering operations, monitor daily fuel consumption logs, maintain spare parts inventories, and audit marine engine fluids.

Regulatory & Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with IMO, NIMASA, and flag state safety regulations; lead engine room emergency drills and maintain engine logbooks.

Licensure & Certification: Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency (CoC / STCW III/2) recognized by NIMASA or international maritime authorities, alongside valid STCW safety certifications.

Engine Mastery: Proven technical competence with medium/slow-speed marine diesel engines (Wärtsilä, Niigata, Caterpillar, Bergen).

Core Competencies: Conventional tugboat handling, engine room management, emergency breakdown response, hydraulic systems maintenance, and crew leadership.
