About this role
Première Urgence Internationale (PUI) is recruiting a Protection Assistant to support field-level humanitarian protection, community engagement, and referral operations at its base in Pulka, Gwoza LGA, Borno State.
This contract role focuses on protection monitoring, managing facility helpdesks, executing safe referral pathways, supporting Community-Based Protection Networks (CBPNs), and facilitating community outreach across conflict-affected populations in Borno State.
Key Responsibilities-
Field Monitoring & Helpdesk: Conduct household visits, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), and safety audits; operate health/nutrition facility helpdesks to screen, inform, and assist vulnerable individuals.

Safe Referrals: Execute confidential, SOP-compliant referrals to internal and external service providers for specialized care (GBV, healthcare, child protection), ensuring accurate tracking without direct case management.

Community-Based Protection: Establish, mentor, and strengthen Community-Based Protection Networks (CBPNs), women-led groups, and youth life-skills programs to build local resilience and trust.

Data Collection & Reporting: Record field data using digital collection tools (e.g., KoboToolbox), log complaints/feedback into the MEAL project framework, and contribute to weekly/monthly protection reports.

Protection Mainstreaming: Ensure all sector interventions (health, nutrition, food assistance) adhere to strict protection, safety, and confidentiality principles.

Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Political Science, Law, Psychology, Social Work, International Development, or a related discipline.

Experience: Minimum of 1 to 2 years of relevant hands-on protection, human rights, or community outreach experience within an NGO/INGO or humanitarian setup.

Language Skills: Fluent in English and Hausa. Knowledge of local Gwoza dialects (or Kanuri) is a distinct advantage.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and digital data collection platforms (KoboToolbox, CommCare).

Core Competencies: Basic understanding of protection/GBV guiding principles, referral pathways, community engagement, report writing, and operating under pressure in deep-field emergency settings.
