Backend Engineer

Flutterwave—a leading payments technology infrastructure provider and multi-currency payment gateway operating across Africa and globally—is recruiting a Backend Engineer (C#) for its engineering team in Lekki, Lagos State. Reporting to the Engineering Lead, this role designs, builds, and maintains high-throughput financial processing engines, API integrations, and secure backend payment systems utilizing C# and .NET frameworks within Flutterwave’s borderless transaction ecosystem.

• Core Payments Backend Architecture: Design, write, and execute scalable backend algorithms, payment processing services, and RESTful APIs in C# for high-concurrency transaction environments.

• API Integration & Performance: Integrate third-party banking APIs, scheme interfaces, and digital wallets while optimizing data structures, queries, and system throughput for sub-second latency.

• Data Security & Privacy: Enforce global data privacy standards (PCI-DSS, NDPR, GDPR) to protect sensitive customer and transaction data across all software pipelines.

• DevOps & Collaborative Delivery: Utilize Git collaboration tools, participate in code reviews, fix operational software bugs, and conduct automated testing to ensure platform reliability.

• Academic Credentials: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or technical equivalents.

• Technical Mastery: At least 4 years of solid development experience in C#, .NET / .NET Core frameworks, microservices architecture, object-oriented design (OOD), relational/non-relational databases, and API development.

• Engineering Tools: Proficiency in Git workflows, CI/CD deployment pipelines, unit testing frameworks, and system optimization.

• Core Competencies: Data structures, algorithmic design, system resilience under high load, agile software execution, and financial security protocols.
