About the Role
BIC is hiring an Associate Manager - Stationery & Trade Marketing to lead trade marketing strategy and execution for the stationery category in Nigeria, driving distribution, visibility, consumer demand, market share, and profitable growth across key channels. The role is based in Lagos, Nigeria (onsite, full-time).
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement annual trade marketing plans by category, channel, and customer, aligned with growth objectives and stationery acceleration in Nigeria
- Translate global and regional brand strategies into locally relevant trade initiatives that drive penetration, distribution, visibility, and demand
- Adapt plans to Nigerian market specifics, including traditional trade, wholesalers, sub-distributors, and emerging channels
- Identify opportunities to increase category penetration, distribution, and consumer recruitment through assortment, visibility programs, and channel activation
- Act as the distributor's primary counterpart for marketing matters (activations, POSM, merchandising, trade programs), in coordination with Business Development
- Build distributor marketing and merchandising capabilities through training and best practices
- Define and monitor merchandising and visibility standards across channels; improve in-store execution quality
- Manage trade marketing budgets, track ROI, and improve trade spend efficiency
- Monitor market, customer, competitor, shopper, and pricing data (including Nielsen where available) to identify growth opportunities
- Conduct market visits and distributor checks to monitor competitor pricing, promotions, and trade activities
- Collaborate with Marketing, Sales, Supply, distributors, and regional teams
- Track KPIs including sales growth, market share, distribution, campaign performance, and execution quality
Requirements
- University Degree in Marketing, Business, Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of trade marketing experience in an FMCG company
- Experience in a multi-market or distributor-led environment is an advantage
- Strong understanding of traditional trade, sub-distributors, and modern trade
- Knowledge of merchandising, POSM, trade activations, and campaign management
- Familiarity with Revenue Growth Management principles
- Strong analytical, project, budget, and stakeholder management skills
- Proficiency in MS Office, with intermediate/advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Ability to influence stakeholders and manage distributor relationships effectively
