Report/BI Engineer

Turnkey Africa is seeking an entry-level Report/BI Engineer to support the development, testing, and maintenance of backend services for Evolve, an insurance management platform. The role offers practical experience in Java, Spring Boot, APIs, and SQL, with guidance from experienced engineers

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend features, bug fixes, and REST APIs using Java and Spring Boot
• Write and update SQL queries, ensuring data accuracy, validation, and consistency
• Maintain API documentation and collaborate with frontend engineers
• Write unit and integration tests, investigate defects, and verify fixes
• Submit code changes for review, apply feedback, and maintain technical documentation
• Investigate issues using approved tools and logs, escalating risks promptly
• Follow secure coding practices and support release preparation and deployment checks

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical training with relevant projects
• Foundational Java skills and familiarity with Spring Boot
• Understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and debugging
• Basic knowledge of REST APIs, HTTP, JSON, relational databases, SQL, and Git
• Ability to write basic automated tests, explain code, and use technical documentation
• Strong communication, attention to detail, collaboration, and willingness to learn
• Exposure to Hibernate/JPA, TypeScript, Angular, NextJS, Postman, OpenAPI, or CI/CD is an advantage
