Grants and Operations Manager

Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO), through its flagship initiative the Africa Youth Climate Fund (AYCF), is recruiting a remote Grants and Operations Manager. Reporting directly to the Director of AYCF, this pan-African role oversees the end-to-end grant lifecycle, strengthens internal controls, coordinates compliance with GAYO as fiscal host, and leads operational systems to drive accessible, participatory youth climate finance across Africa.

• Location: Remote (Must reside within Africa)

• Contract Duration: 1 Year, Renewable (Subject to performance and funding)

• Reports To: Director, Africa Youth Climate Fund (AYCF)

• Industry: NGO / Climate Finance / Youth Development / Philanthropy

• Salary Range: $2,700 – $3,000 USD gross monthly

• Strategic Grant Operations (30%): Oversee AYCF's grantmaking systems; lead competitive calls for proposals, eligibility screening, due diligence, grant contracting, disbursements, and close-outs; act as Secretariat to Grant Review Committees.

• Operations, Compliance & Risk Management (20%): Strengthen operational systems, procurement, records, asset tracking, and internal controls in alignment with GAYO fiscal hosting rules; implement risk tracking dashboards.

• Grantee Onboarding & Support (20%): Coordinate grantee onboarding on contractual obligations, financial reporting, and safeguarding; manage grant amendments, budget realignments, and extensions.

• Financial Coordination & Accountability (10%): Liaise with GAYO Finance to ensure payment requests, grant commitments, and financial documentation are complete, audit-ready, and aligned with donor agreements.

• Planning, Reporting & Leadership (20%): Prepare periodic grant portfolio reports for the Advisory Circle; develop operational dashboards; provide technical guidance and compliance capacity-building across internal teams.

• Degree: Master’s Degree in International Development, Public/Business Administration, Finance, Law, Climate Finance, Non-Profit Management, or a related field (or a Bachelor's Degree combined with substantial relevant experience).

• Certifications: Professional certifications in Grants Management, Project Management (PMP), Procurement, Risk, or Non-Profit Operations are considered an added advantage.

• Years of Experience: Minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible experience in grant management, fund operations, compliance, or institutional systems within non-profit, climate, or development sectors.

• Core Experience: Proven track record in managing the full grantmaking lifecycle, managing institutional donor-funded budgets, and establishing grant compliance frameworks.

• Desirable Context: Experience working within an intermediary fund, youth-led climate organization, or climate finance mechanism.

• Comprehensive mastery of grant governance, trust-based/participatory philanthropy, donor compliance, and fiduciary risk management.

• Strong working knowledge of grant budgeting, operational procurement, and financial monitoring.

• High proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Teams) and digital grant management platforms.
