Programs and Community Support Manager

Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO), through its flagship initiative the Africa Youth Climate Fund (AYCF), is recruiting a remote Programs and Community Support Manager. Reporting directly to the Director of AYCF, this pan-African role oversees program portfolio delivery, grantee capacity strengthening, quality assurance, and monitoring, evaluation, learning, and knowledge management (MEL/KM) across youth climate projects in Africa.

Key Responsibilities

• Program Portfolio Management (30%): Oversee thematic grant windows (e.g., climate research, innovation, youth advocacy); coordinate grantee program onboarding alongside Grants & Operations; and conduct regular portfolio progress reviews.

• Grantee Capacity Strengthening (20%): Conduct organizational capacity assessments; deliver tailored training, mentoring, and coaching; and build peer-learning networks and communities of practice for youth leaders.

• Program Quality & Safeguarding (20%): Implement quality standards; integrate safeguarding, gender equality, youth protection, and environmental/social safeguards across funded projects.

• MEL & Knowledge Management (10%): Lead the program framework for indicator tracking; collect and analyze portfolio data; author high-quality donor and impact reports; and capture best practices and case studies.

• Ecosystem Building & Partnerships (10%): Build collaborations with incubators, research institutes, and mentors to expand opportunities for AYCF grantees; represent AYCF at climate summits and technical working groups.

• Leadership & Strategy (10%): Supervise assigned program staff and technical consultants; support annual work planning and donor engagement; and promote continuous portfolio improvement.

Requirements & Qualifications Education & Certifications

• Degree: Master’s Degree in International Development, Project Management, Climate Change, Public Policy, Social Sciences, MEL, or a related field (or a Bachelor’s Degree with substantial, progressive experience).

• Certifications: Professional certifications in Project Management (PMP), MEL, organizational development, facilitation, or safeguarding are considered added advantages.

Experience

• Years of Experience: Minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in program management, grant portfolio support, organizational development, MEL/KM, or grantee accompaniment within non-profit, climate, or youth sectors.

• Core Competencies: Proven experience managing multi-country programs, strengthening grassroots/youth-led CSOs, implementing results-based management frameworks, and facilitating learning processes.

• Desirable Context: Direct experience with African youth climate networks, participatory grantmaking, trust-based philanthropy, or regional climate finance mechanisms.
