About this role
Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO), through its flagship initiative the Africa Youth Climate Fund (AYCF), is recruiting a remote Communications and Youth Engagement Officer. Reporting directly to the Director of AYCF, this pan-African role is responsible for driving the Fund's communications, youth engagement agenda, digital visibility, media relations, and storytelling—amplifying the impact of young African climate leaders across regional and global platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications & Brand Positioning (25%): Implement AYCF’s Communications & Youth Engagement Strategy; maintain brand integrity; craft messaging for leadership; and produce institutional publications that articulate AYCF's mission to donors and the public.

Digital Communications & Storytelling (20%): Manage digital platforms (website, social media, newsletters); produce multimedia content (videos, infographics, photography, blogs, podcasts); document grantee success stories; and analyze digital metrics.

Youth Engagement & Community Building (15%): Coordinate engagements with grantees, alumni, and climate networks; maintain youth databases; facilitate webinars, consultations, and forums; and foster an inclusive pan-African youth climate movement.

Media Relations & Advocacy Support (10%): Build relationships with journalists and media outlets; draft press releases, speeches, and op-eds; track media coverage on climate finance; and translate research into accessible advocacy materials.

Knowledge Management & Event Management (20%): Package program evidence into impact reports; coordinate AYCF's digital and physical presence at climate summits and youth conferences; and manage post-event communications.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation (10%): Introduce new tools for digital engagement, support staff/grantee communications capacity building, and assist in developing materials for resource mobilization.
Requirements & Qualifications Education & Certifications

Degree: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Development Communication, Media Studies, International Relations, Political Science, or a related field (Master's degree is an advantage but not required).

Certifications: Professional training/certifications in digital marketing, strategic communications, graphic design, multimedia production, or youth engagement are considered assets.
Experience
-
Years of Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in strategic communications, public relations, media, youth engagement, or advocacy within non-profit, climate, or development sectors.

Core Competencies: Proven experience running digital campaigns, managing social media channels, writing high-impact reports/speeches, coordinating youth networks, and engaging media practitioners.

Desirable Context: Prior experience working with African youth climate movements, climate finance initiatives, or multi-country programs across Africa. Working proficiency in French, Arabic, or Portuguese alongside English is a major advantage.
Technical Competencies & Software

Design & Multimedia Tools: Proficiency in Canva and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Illustrator) or equivalent graphic design/video editing tools.

Digital Platforms: Hands-on experience with Content Management Systems (WordPress), email marketing platforms (Mailchimp/ConvertKit), CRM tools, social media schedulers, and analytics platforms.
