Job Title: Business Development Lead

JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Business Development Lead to drive business growth by identifying new market opportunities, securing clients, strengthening existing relationships, and leading strategic initiatives that increase revenue and market share. The successful candidate will oversee market intelligence, opportunity identification, tender management, proposal development, contract negotiations, and strategic partnerships.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement the Company's business development strategy and annual plans.
- Identify and pursue new opportunities across the Oil & Gas value chain and develop market entry strategies for new services.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activities, pricing, and emerging industry opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients and serve as the primary contact for strategic accounts.
- Monitor tender portals and evaluate RFIs, RFQs, ITTs, and RFPs.
- Coordinate technical and commercial proposals, ensure timely bid submissions, and maintain proposal and lessons-learned repositories.
- Lead commercial negotiations, work with Legal on contract reviews, and support contract renewals and amendments.
- Drive annual sales and revenue targets, forecasts, pipeline development, market penetration, cross-selling, and upselling.
- Identify and establish local and international strategic partnerships, including joint ventures and consortium arrangements.
- Represent the Company at conferences, exhibitions, networking events, and industry forums while engaging regulators, clients, vendors, and strategic partners.
- Conduct market research and prepare business intelligence reports for Management.
- Ensure compliance with NUPRC requirements, Nigerian Content Development requirements, Company policies, ethical standards, and anti-bribery and anti-corruption policies.
- Lead and develop Business Development Executives and ensure team performance against established KPIs.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Marketing, or related discipline.
- MBA or Master's Degree is an advantage.
- Membership of relevant professional bodies is desirable.
- Minimum of 8–12 years' experience in Business Development or Sales within the upstream Oil & Gas industry, with at least 4 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Proven experience managing large tenders, commercial negotiations, and key client relationships.
- Experience with IOCs, indigenous operators, or major service companies is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of business development strategy, sales/account management, tender and bid management, proposal development, contract management, market intelligence, financial analysis, pricing strategy, and CRM systems.
- Knowledge of the Nigerian upstream Oil & Gas industry, local content regulations, and procurement processes.
- Strong strategic thinking, commercial acumen, leadership, negotiation, stakeholder management, communication, analytical, decision-making, and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with familiarity with ERP/CRM or contract management systems.
- Must be results-oriented, professional, able to work under pressure, travel at short notice, and represent the Company before regulatory and government agencies.
