About this role
We are seeking an experienced Chief Accountant to oversee all accounting and financial control activities across our operations, ensure accurate and timely month-end close, maintain full statutory and regulatory compliance, and deliver clear, actionable financial reports to support management decision-making. The ideal candidate will bring strong hospitality, accounting experience, proven supervisory capability, and in-depth knowledge of local regulatory requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead the finance function to deliver accurate financial statements, maintain robust internal controls, manage cash and banking, oversee payroll and statutory filings, and support management decision‑making through timely analysis and forecasts.
- Month‑end and year‑end close: prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Financial reporting & analysis: produce P&L, balance sheet, cash‑flow reports and variance analysis for management.
- Internal controls & compliance: design, implement and monitor controls over cash, inventory, payroll and procurement; ensure compliance with local tax and statutory requirements.
- Cash & bank management: daily bank reconciliations, cash forecasting, and petty cash controls.
- Payroll & staff management: oversee payroll processing, statutory deductions, and supervise accounting team.
- Audit & external relations: coordinate external audits, tax filings and liaise with banks and advisors.
- Cost control: monitor food, beverage and operating costs; implement measures to improve margins.

Requirements and Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting, Finance
- ACCA/ICAN qualification preferred.
- Minimum 6-7 years’ accounting experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory role; hospitality and / or restaurant experience strongly preferred.
- Proven experience with accounting and PMS / POS software (QuickBooks, Sage, Opera, Macros, Semper)
- Advanced Excel skills.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work occasional extended hours during month‑end and audit periods
- Scope: full‑cycle accounting, payroll, cash/bank control, inventory & cost control, tax and statutory reporting, budgeting, and audit liaison.
- Must‑have: Hospitality and F&B accounting experience, strong Excel and accounting‑software skills, supervisory experience.
- Focus: accuracy, internal control mindset, ability to translate numbers into operational recommendations for a busy Jos restaurant/hotel.
