Senior Backend Engineer (Java)

Backed by marquee global investors like QED Investors, Moniepoint runs a high-volume fintech infrastructure dedicated to giving businesses equal access to financial tools.

This senior engineering role operates fully remote within Nigeria, focusing on crafting highly resilient financial services, processing large data streams, and scaling distributed systems. The ideal candidate will architect and deploy business-critical microservices, manage containerized cloud infrastructure, and champion software engineering best practices within a collaborative backend community.

• Architecture & Service Implementation: Design highly scalable system architectures and implement performant backend services using Java and Spring Boot.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner directly with product, design, and QA teams to define technical parameters and ship high-impact financial features.

• Third-Party Integration: Seamlessly integrate external APIs and third-party financial services while ensuring robust error handling and graceful degradation.

• Code Quality & Testing: Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code with a strong focus on system reliability, testability, and automation.

• System Debugging & Refactoring: Debug complex, data-heavy issues across the distributed stack and proactively identify opportunities for continuous system refactoring.

• Team Mentorship & Peer Review: Participate in code reviews, contribute to architecture discussions, share best practices, and document technical decisions for future team reference.

• Education: Bachelor's or Master's Degree (BS/MS) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

• Experience Baseline: At least five (5) or more years of professional software engineering experience, with a heavy emphasis on distributed backend systems.

• Language & Framework Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in Java (latest versions) and the Spring / Spring Boot ecosystem for building production-grade microservices.

• Database Competency: Proficient with relational databases (PostgreSQL), NoSQL architectures (DynamoDB), and standard ORM frameworks such as Hibernate.

• DevOps & Infrastructure: Practical familiarity with containerized deployments and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes, alongside CI/CD pipelines and Agile workflows.

• Search & Analytics Stack: Exposure to or understanding of Elasticsearch for full-text search engine execution and data analytics across large datasets.

• Cloud Platform: Working knowledge of cloud-native deployment patterns inside AWS (Amazon Web Services) Cloud Infrastructure.

• Added Advantages: Exposure to frontend web frameworks like AngularJS or React is a plus.
