Senior Backend Engineer

iRecharge, a Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) licensed FinTech company specializing in cross-border payment processing, bill payments, and agency banking, is recruiting a Senior Backend Engineer (TypeScript/Node.js). This is a full-time, fully remote engineering role focused on building high-throughput backend services, payment APIs, and event-driven architectures.

• Core Systems Architecture: Design, build, and maintain high-throughput payment processing and bill vending services using TypeScript and Node.js.

• Event-Driven Systems: Implement reliable message processing, decoupling, and event-driven workflows using AWS SNS/SQS, AWS Lambda, and API Gateway.

• API & Database Management: Build RESTful APIs that maintain backward compatibility; work across both relational (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis) databases.

• DevOps & Testing: Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines via GitHub Actions, write unit/integration tests, and optimize system performance through profiling and monitoring.

• Engineering Standards & Mentorship: Enforce SOLID principles and modern architectural design patterns (e.g., NestJS framework), perform thorough code reviews, and mentor junior developers.

• Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of professional backend development with heavy TypeScript/Node.js production experience.

• Cloud Architecture: Deep hands-on knowledge of AWS serverless ecosystems (Lambda, SAM, SNS, SQS, API Gateway).

• Database Expertise: Proven experience working with both SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB, Redis) data stores, understanding trade-offs at scale.

• System Design: Strong grasp of distributed systems design, asynchronous processing, and architectural trade-offs.

• Prior domain experience in FinTech or payment processing.

• Experience with Temporal for multi-step workflow orchestration.

• Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) or alternative back-end languages (Python, Go, C#/.NET).

• Experience with Event Sourcing and CQRS patterns.
