About this role
Unilever Nigeria Plc—a global Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) enterprise—is recruiting a Utilities Technician (Mechanical) to join its Supply Chain engineering team at the Agbara Factory, Ogun State.
Reporting to the Utilities and Site Services Manager, this hands-on technical role is responsible for maintaining, overhauling, and troubleshooting utility plant machinery—including industrial boilers, chillers, air compressors, water treatment systems, and cooling towers—to ensure maximum manufacturing uptime and strict safety compliance.

Preventive & Reactive Maintenance: Execute scheduled maintenance and rapid fault diagnosis on rotating/static machinery, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, boilers, chillers, compressed air units, cooling towers, and HVAC systems.

Mechanical Overhauls & Equipment Service: Overhaul pumps, blowers, gearboxes, and compressors; carry out shaft alignments, bearing checks, mechanical seal replacements, and vibration monitoring.

Water & Utility Infrastructure: Operate boreholes, submersible pumps, and raw water treatment plants; log operating parameters and service dryer/filter elements.

Basic Mechatronics & Control Support: Diagnose faults on Variable Speed Drives (VSDs), assist with sensor calibration, read P&ID wiring diagrams, and perform basic PLC/HMI instrumentation loop checks.

Safety & Recordkeeping: Execute high-risk maintenance within Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Hot Work, and Confined Space permit protocols; log maintenance work orders and spares usage in SAP PM / CMMS.

Education:

Trade Test Certificate / City & Guilds in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or a related trade OR

OND / HND in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics.

Experience: 3 to 5 years of hands-on mechanical maintenance experience within FMCG, manufacturing, or continuous process plants.

Core Competencies: Practical mastery of rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, drive systems), Permit-to-Work (PTW) protocols, and safe isolation procedures.

OEM technical training on Atlas Copco air compressors, Carrier (or equivalent) refrigeration chillers, or Thermax/Cochran steam boilers.

Proficiency in using SAP PM (or equivalent CMMS software) and basic electrical/instrumentation troubleshooting.
