Experienced Process Safety and Risk Advisor

ExxonMobil is hiring an Experienced Process Safety and Risk Advisor to provide personnel safety and risk advisory support to operating assets or new development projects in Nigeria. The role builds expertise in process safety, personnel safety, risk management, work management, Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS), incident investigation, and emergency preparedness and response.

About the Role

Safety and Risk advisors support internal customers (for example Operations), internal partners (engineering or project disciplines), and external partners (contractors and regulatory agencies) in alignment with business need, while building a strong professional foundation in safety and risk.

Location

Lagos, Nigeria (onsite). Full-time.

Key Responsibilities

• Understand corporate and business-line safety and risk standards and applicable regulations; advise customers on requirements and help implement cost-effective compliance solutions
• Become familiar with operating asset, business line/function, or project activities within job scope and with corporate safety and risk policy and standards
• Support advocacy of ExxonMobil safety and risk positions with governmental and non-governmental institutions
• Identify non-conformances with key safety and risk practices and recommend corrective actions
• Participate in HAZOPs, PHAs, scenario-based risk assessments, risk screenings, and other risk discovery processes
• Apply principles of behavioral safety and human performance
• Support effective implementation of ExxonMobil's Personnel Safety Management System (PSMS) and relevant OIMS requirements
• Apply basics of contractor safety management
• Understand internal and external incident reporting requirements; lead incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective measures
• Share incident and process safety learnings within project, site, or function; provide office-based and field support

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science Degree, preferably in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering; a higher degree in Risk / Safety Engineering is an added advantage
• Minimum of 5 years relevant oil and gas experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; fluent written and spoken English for technical and business communications
• Knowledge and application of process safety codes, standards, and practices (for example API 14C, 14J, 794, NFPA) and personnel safety and human performance is an added advantage
• Proficiency in consequence assessment modelling tools such as PHAST is an added advantage
