About this role

TeKnowledge, a global technology solutions firm serving enterprises, governments, and tech vendors, is recruiting a Backend AI Engineer (Financial Services Platform). Based in Victoria Island, Lagos, this role focuses on engineering high-performance microservices, API integrations, and service layers on top of core banking systems using AI-assisted development tools (such as Claude Code) and cloud-native architectures.

Key Responsibilities

API & Microservices Architecture: Design, build, and deploy secure backend microservices, APIs, and intermediate service layers above core banking and transaction platforms.
AI-Assisted Software Engineering: Leverage advanced AI tools (including Claude Code) to accelerate code generation, optimize backend logic, and streamline software design.
Integrations & Message Queues: Build event-driven and messaging-based integrations connecting core financial systems with external providers (such as AML, KYC, and PSP payment gateways).
Data & Platform Reliability: Manage distributed system data flows using Operational Data Stores (ODS), Identity & Access Management (IAM), document repositories, and queue/pub-sub architectures.
Scalability & Security: Optimize Azure cloud infrastructure to ensure system security, high availability, performance reliability, and transaction integrity.

Requirements & Qualifications Education

Bachelor's Degree: Required in a technical discipline (Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or related field).
Advanced Degree: Master’s degree is preferred.

Experience

Years of Experience: 5 to 9 years of hands-on experience in backend engineering and system architecture.
Financial Domain Expertise: Proven experience with financial systems, lending solutions, digital payment processing, or fintech platforms. Direct experience integrating external AML, KYC, and PSP services.

Technical & Architectural Skills

Backend Development: Deep proficiency in .NET, Node.js, or Python.
Cloud Platform: Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure.
Mandatory Architecture Patterns:
- Microservices & REST/gRPC APIs
- Event-Driven Architecture & Messaging Systems (Queues, Pub/Sub)
- Operational Data Stores (ODS) & Document Storage
- Identity & Access Management (IAM)
AI Tooling: Demonstrated experience using modern AI-assisted coding tools for development workflows.
Languages: Professional fluency in English.
