About this role
HBM Nigeria Plc (formerly Lafarge Africa Plc, a subsidiary of Huaxin Building Materials Group) is recruiting a Mining Engineer for its open-pit quarry operations in Ewekoro, Ogun State. This technical operations role manages daily raw material extraction, blast design optimization, drill-and-blast execution, overburden removal, crusher feed grade blending, explosives inventory, and site safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities

Drill, Blast & Fragmentation Optimization: Coordinate drilling patterns, charge weight designs, and blasting schedules; ensure optimal rock fragmentation and geotechnical wall stability while managing explosives inventory.

Extraction & Crusher Feed Management: Oversee load-and-haul cycles, overburden stripping, and Grade Control drilling; schedule daily pit extractions to blend raw material grade parameters for crusher feed targets.

Safety, Maintenance & Regulatory Compliance: Enforce Quarry Safety Handbook protocols, inspect heavy mobile equipment (excavators, dump trucks) pre-start logs, maintain environmental standards, and prepare statutory regulatory reports.

Cost & Budget Control: Analyze drilling meter forecasts, cycle times, and explosives consumption to optimize operational production costs and minimize machine downtime.
Requirements & Qualifications

Academic Background: Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Mining Engineering or a related geological/engineering field.

Work Experience: 4–5 years of hands-on experience supervising drill-and-blast, load-and-haul, and pit operations within an open-pit mine or limestone quarry.

Technical Competencies: Deep knowledge of blast sampling, quality control (QA/QC) grade blending, blast optimization techniques, mine safety frameworks, and heavy mobile equipment utilization.
